HISTORY
The Edgewood Art College was founded by Gloria Korsower with one purpose: to change the town of Edgewood. No one can argue that she didn’t succeed, but whether she changed it for the better is still in question.

As President of the College, Gloria micromanaged every detail, from the hiring and firing of staff to the dress code. Since Gloria fancied herself an artist, she personally dictated all of the class syllabi and made the students perform her plays, replicate her paintings and recite her poems. When a professor objected to these practices she fired him on the spot and burned his beret. Gloria’s inflexibility drove away almost all of her employees and she began filling their vacancies with professors who wouldn’t contradict her. Despite all of her actions the school prospered, though it was due mainly to the lack of art schools in the region.

During Edgewood Art’s rise, a curious phenomenon began to occur. Students were drawn to the school but upon arrival they began to drop out at a prodigious rate. Gloria, displaying her characteristic modesty, began distributing self portraits to all new students, but this only exacerbated the problem. She never considered the ramifications of collecting a group of outsiders to form a cohesive whole.

Gloria didn’t have a problem with her students dropping out (never a shortage of grist for the mill), the only problem was that they never left town. The residents of Edgewood took to calling the dropouts “driftwood” and though she pretended not to care, Gloria was incensed. She hated the “driftwood” and seized still more control over the school to eliminate the problem. Nothing she did could stem the flow. The harder she came down on them, the more students dropped out.
